Tomahawk Scout Reservation
Tomahawk was attended this year by 29 scouts and 6 adults for the week. Numerous (11) other adults came and went during the week. Over 49 merit badges were earned as well as 113 segments. 13 scouts advanced in rank. Saturday - Met at church at 8:00 a.m. Left at 9:40 with 10 vehicles headed to camp with the troop trailer and 2 additional trailers. Arrived at camp at 1:30 p.m. Boys and parents had everything unloaded by the time SM arrived with troop trailer after camp check-in. Older scouts were paired up this year with younger scouts to help with tent set up. All set up done by 3:30 p.m. including the health check. Pudgy pies were made and everyone was in bed by 10:15 p.m. Sunday - Rain in morning. Attended camp opening ceremony, church service attended and two scouts and 1 adult called out at the OA campfire. Excellent dutch oven cakes by Senior Patrol. Leaders enjoyed the clear night sky with one lonely new scout. Monday - Sunny, beautiful day. All merit badges in session and everyone attended on schedule. Lost polo match to Miami campsite 7-8. Several scouts advanced in rank already. Scrumptious chocolate cake courtesy of the Pheasants. Tuesday - Several merit badges were finished already today. Much interest in the flying squirrel at the evening camp fire. Wednesday - Cooked pancakes, ham and kielbasa for breakfast. Attended Cheeseburgers in Paradise. "Quick cook" stew for supper using the jet burner. Quapaw campsite joined us for our evening campfire. Skits were performed with many laughs especially for the two jerks on a stick. Two dutch oven cakes along with an apple crisp and a peach cobbler were gobbled up. Bear walked through senior campsite during night. He found no food and kept on moving through camp. Thursday - Various scouts attended troop rifle and archery shoot. Numerous boards of review completed-7 tenderfoot and 6 first class. SPL candidates gave their speeches. One scout bitten by a mouse. Friday - Scouts participated in the Polar Bear Swim, Foxfire Hike, Friday Games, and the famous Beach Bash. The Troop took first place in the surf board carry at the Friday competition among the other troops in camp. Merit badges and segments were purchased. Several police calls were completed. Drew Keller, our camp commissioner, visited and inspected equipment for an early checkout on Saturday. Started camp site tear down of equipment-all dining flys and everything packed in troop trailer before campfire. Everyone enjoyed skits and 3 dutch oven cakes with frosting at the final troop campfire of the week. Saturday - Up early to pack and break down the campsite. Policing the campsite went fairly well. The commissioner came for the final checkout inspection and to say his goodbyes. The troop received only one "strike" in commissioner baseball for the Tomahawk 2004 season.
